Update 2015-07-10:

  • fixed an incorrect setting on Wheatley which allowed the player to pick him up;
  • enabled a shortcut after you get the yellow cube, so you don’t need to go through the whole process again if you loose it;
  • some minor adjustments.

Update 2015-07-12:

  • Removed some portal-enabled surfaces that were confusing
  • Added a small extra hint to the main puzzle

Update 2015-07-14:

  • Exchanged the static platforms in the main room for moving panels, to allow players to retrieve misplaced cubes more easily. Thanks to Nobody No-one (on the Steam workshop) for that idea!

4th Sendificate map preview images

Here are some preview images from the 4th map in the Sendificate series. (Haven’t decided on a name yet.)

It has two tutorial puzzles, one main puzzle and a bit of story development.

Fake volumetric lighting in Portal 2

Last week, someone posted a link to this concept art image on TWP:

I really like the way you can see the beams of light shining down into the room and wondered if this could be made in the game engine, in a way that doesn’t look shitty. Here’s a first attempt:

I made it by creating many layers (but not too many, for performance reasons) of an almost completely transparent texture. Each layer adds a tiny bit of colour to the scene, which gives the effect its volumetric appearance.

The key is to make it very subtle, to the point where viewers might not even notice it conciously. The more it stands out, the more fake it looks.
